the place between asleep and awake.

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
~ Walt Disney

one thing i don't think good ole Walt thought about was...
what if you didn't want your dreams to come true?
at least not literally.

but i guess you could call those nightmares.
the ones that i  don't want to come true.
i know, i know...those don't count.
most of the time.

i think i'm just scared i'll lose the best thing that's ever happened to me
and my brain is making fun of me,
funny that something as apart of me as my brain would make fun of my heart like that.

i really hate nightmares.

rather than sleep tonight...

i'm blogging. it's almost 1 AM and i'm waking up at 5 to draw a poster. but it's okay, i took a nap earlier today after cleaning the bathroom {which if i may say so myself, is pristine now}, so i am well-rested.

i love this song:

it really has nothing to do with anything, honestly. the melody just made me really happy; the combination of low and high notes in a soft music box kind of melody...

{sigh}

Goodnight...may your dreams be pleasant ones.
and may you never lose sight of the Northern Star

Starlight Starbright

i could see the milky way tonight.
wish my camera could have captured it.
it made me feel so small.
imagine...billions upon billions of stars
so many stars, that it looks just like a cloud...
earth is sleeping on a cloud of stars...

happy thoughts!

best cure for a blue day? happy thoughts! yah i know, stupid private school weirdo telling you that. i completely agree. but who knows, maybe this will work. i haven't been posting all the posts i've been actually writing because they are all so depressing and repetitive. yah. i'm a sucker.

anyway! first happy thought! my brothers don't think i'm a complete wimp and spoiled brat anymore! {at least this is the impression i am receiving} in fact we had a ton of fun yesterday emptying the attic and moving about 64 buckets of wheat and rice. let me tell you....WHOA, that attic was like 160 degrees, literally the plastic boxes they were bringing down were hot to the touch! and those wheat buckets? yah, i have the beginnings of blisters on my hands because they were just so heavy. but it was really great! and i'm not even joking - i LOVE being around my brothers, something about being around them makes me feel so fulfilled. i wanna marry someone who is a mix of all three of them: the calm temperament of cameron and quirkiness too; the spontaneous character and rough/rugged parts of aaron {men: rugged is SO attractive to girls fyi}; and the artistic eye and appreciation i feel from jordon. i am just so blessed to have them as my brothers. yah. WOW. no one is luckier than me except probably...yah i don't even know of someone to list as luckier than myself, haha

happy thought #2! so also yesterday, after we dropped off all the buckets and emptied both the moving truck {careful not to give meg any of the heavy ones} and the trailer {took all day to fill both and a matter of 2 and a half hours to empty - what's with that?} we were talking outside and we turned off the lights...and guess what? you can see the stars. ok so you've heard me talk about stars before duh, but you have never seen stars like that. with no city lights to interfere it's like you are in a completely different world - you can even see the milky way! it's just absolutely beautiful, and the view from my bedroom window could seriously see all the way to midvale if i wanted to, if only there weren't a mountain in the way.

happy thought #3...ok so i've actually been pretty down about the new ward that we've moved into - nobody has really welcomed us in and it's just overall kind of lame. i would like some friends other than my own sister {no offense Lo - i just gotta have a social life otherwise i'll be driven insane} but today i saw this guy...i honestly dunno what it was but i swear i recognized him from somewhere! i still don't know where from {i think it might just be nothing, maybe he's chandler's cousin that he was telling me about that lives down there and i'm just seeing family resemblance but whatevs} haha...i just keep crossing my fingers that not only will i be able to make friends with some cool girls but mostly i really want guy friends again. i fricken miss esteban, nick, jongthu, cameron, drew, david, madison and all the other fellas...i just can't believe i probably won't see people like austin and michael ever again...totally depressing note - back to happy thoughts, this guy seemed friendly, maybe i'll actually go to mutual {haha}

happy thought...#4? i'm not sure what the next happy thought will be about...give me a sec...oh! i was looking online this morning at the salem hills' high school website and the art teacher? she was my sunday school substitute last week! yah i know right? totally awesome, and i really liked her too. i'm thinking i'll take an art class this coming year - because i regretted not taking one last year so badly, i'll make up for it.

happy thought #5 - my mom is going to let me design my own bedroom for once {so happy!} and i decided that since the walls are a really warm but pale yellow - i'm going to make my room yellow, blue and white - my mom said that maybe she can help me get a new comforter for my bed and when she buys curtains she'll get me blue ones instead of whatever other color she was thinking. my own room....for the first time {except for that one month deal i loved after jordon left but then we moved afterward...} yup. SO excited for those new accomodations!

so...yah, i'm pretty much out of happy thoughts {overall it was kind of a fail, because the sad has still got me under it's claw..? but at least this post was about something other than that right? right.} *smile hard

country tears

ever heard a song that didn't explain how you were feeling at all? but how you wished someone else might have felt...because then you would have probably changed your own feelings? yah...that's me. i find myself randomly wanting to cry...like a lot, simply walking past a stupid field where i may have went golfing once; or cut across through a couple yards using a short cut someone had walked with me through...

and then i realize i'm such an idiot because they just...don't feel the same way. y'know? i mean - it's not like they don't totally forget about me, but i'm just not the same to them anymore.

anyway - the meaning of the title of this post: country tears is a term i thought of in my head {late night thoughts...so rich y'know?} where one person feels so dang much but they learn through tough experience that it's better to keep it bottled up; but then they have to cry sometime right? so they cry inside. those are country tears.

{i country cry a lot.}

but then just like crying, once it's over it's done. you're not even hardly sad anymore. just like the country - you keep going, you live, you adjust and you just...move on. no matter how hard it is, it's just life. no matter how much you could take those kisses back, take back all the things you said that you guess now were over-hasty...it's never going to happen.

so here's a country song to end this post. a kabungle of the beginning of this post {i don't feel the way this song sings but i wish sometimes that someone else did - but after my country tears, i'm ok that they dont...just havin' a hard time movin on y'know?} *wink...

the end. {sorry, i know - another post about that but i promise, it's one of the last ones. i'm moving on. haha literally.}

kaylla

ps - ok maybe the song does apply to me. whatever. i like the song either way - it's got a nice guitar part IF ANYTHING ok?

See the Stars

Last night lying down in my bed, after packing up parts of my bedroom most of the day (too much time to think when doing that menial labor by the way) I noticed that I could actually see the stars. That's kind of a big deal for me. When we first moved to American Fork from Highland I was really sad because all the city lights drowned out the starlight. It made me think and feel like we really weren't in Kansas anymore. ;)

In my bed though! If I really want to see stars in AF these days you have to go outside and turn off all the lights, and it also has to be like 2 in the morning, whereas last night, I went to bed around like 12:30? I didn't have to go outside, turn off lights or anything. It was really pretty. I could see them so clearly - one even sparkled a little bit red sometimes.

It's funny...when I look at the stars sometimes, I feel like I could do anything. Sometimes I wonder if people that I wish I could talk to are looking at the stars at the same time as me. And maybe even the same stars, but of course that's all silly stuff....

But you know what - I like silly stuff. Let me sappy for a little bit ok? hah
a

So sometimes when I look up at the stars, I think that maybe I could talk to them and through the stars a message might be passed along to my loved ones. I mean why not? If stars are like the pinholes in the curtains of heaven...if I were an angel I'd be looking through them all the time, and if someone were talking to them - I know that if I could, I would pass those messages along, no matter how far or short the distance.

It all kind of reminds me of that movie, The Other Side of Heaven with Elder Groberg. When
he's talking to his girlfriend before he goes on his mission he tells her that they will be looking at the same moon. That's so special honestly...I admire all those guys who during their missions close their hearts to anyone but that one love that they have promised their heart to, no matter how difficult long distance relationships are. It makes it more special that he gave her the moon in a sense to remember him by.

Stars have fascinated people for eons of time, why? What makes these little specks of light so magical? The mystery? They aren't really a mystery anymore as to what they are, although we haven't seen them in person, we do know a lot about them. Is it the beauty? They're so tiny, you would think there were other things more beautiful like diamonds and gems and stuff, but no...there's still something that draws us to the skies.

Anyway...I just thought it was beautiful, and something to think and write about. Hope you at least look at the stars tonight (if they're out that is)...and I just realized, after we move - we will probably be able to see the stars REALLY well from my new house (seeing as it's in the middle of nowhere.)

The Man of the Moon

Here's A short story - although not the one I was planning on writing. The other one kind of went through the drain and the disposal took care of it ;) but I was walking my dog the other night and occasionally like to tell stories to myself (or my dog but don't tell - otherwise I'd have to kill you) haha so I looked up at the moon and made up a story. Enjoy (by the way - keep in mind that I kind of had the idea of like an old indian tale)

~ *~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

Near the big waters of the west a small and very old village lay, nestled within a grove of trees yet close enough to the waters to hear its lull a boy grew into a man and when he became a man he began to look for a wife. As it was a common thing to do at his age he decided that he would take a full cycle of the moon's course in the sky to search for a wife.

Now this man did not want just any wife. He wanted a woman who was not only beautiful but kind and resourceful, a woman who would be a contrast to the more harshly beautiful women of his tribe. So he set out in search of this soft beauty that he desired.

So he grabbed those supplies that he needed to survive for this time and left. He traveled far North, so far North that the clothing he had brought was hardly enough to keep him warm, especially at night and not having the time to kill an animal and use its hide for warmth he began to search even harder for another village.

One day the air and world around him was so cold that he could now see his breath in the mornings and late at night. Now having passed through many villages and to no avail he began to despair of ever finding the perfect woman for him. He began to wonder if he should not just give up and go back home, but he knew that going back without a wife would mean not only total humiliation but also that he would have to settle for one of the girls of the tribe, and although for a warrior humiliation was dreaded, he feared being unloved even more. He not only wanted a perfect wife, he wanted a perfect wife who wanted him.

One night he couldn't sleep. The full moon would be rising that night and after this day he had decided to begin his journey back to his home village. He decided to watch the moon until it set that night. While keeping watch on the moon he walked around through the grove that he had decided to camp. His wanderings brought him near the last village that he had traveled through and not wanting to go to close he headed back toward his camp.

But there was singing . . . a soft child's lullaby it sounded like. It sounded almost as if the forest had gone completely silent just to listen. It wasn't the most beautiful voice or the strongest, but the feeling with which it was sung somehow felt right to the man. He wandered slowly toward the source of the music and when he was near enough to spy on the singer he peered around a tree and found the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was small and had a different kind of beauty than other girls, a pure look, an aura about her of innocence. He was surprised though - he had never seen her before. He knew that she could only have come from the nearby village and though inspired by the many hardworking girls there he hadn't been particularly impressed by any other than that . . . and she had never crossed his vision. He was sure he would have noticed her if she had been anywhere in that village at the time, so why had he never seen her?

He approached her and asked her why he had never seen her before. She quietly answered him that she had not wanted to meet him, afraid that she would fall in love and have to leave her sickly father. She told him of how she had caught glimpses of him when he had briefly been besieged by some children curious to meet the stranger and she had been dazzled by how gentle he had been and how honest he seemed with everyone but she simply could not leave her father and she knew that that was what marrying a stranger like him would mean.

In the moonlight the man who had thought he would never find the perfect woman was surprised that he was destined to lose her before he had even truly had her. But he could not let that happen. In that instant he decided to tell her that he would stay for her, he would help care for her father as well and asked if he could get to know her better.

Needless to say they fell in love, and a month before they were to be married he left for his home village to tell them the news, return for those things that he had left behind and then return to marry the girl he loved. For he did love her, she was the gentlest woman he could imagine, the most patient, kind and loving. She was the only one whom he could see himself ever loving and never would he find another. His search was over.

Soon they were wed and then soon after that as well she was expecting a child. Life seemed it could not be happier, and everything in their lives seemed to agree.

But then disaster stuck. The girl's father died and the girl was overcome with grief. In her grief and pain and torment the baby came early into this world and she delivered a baby boy. The man tried to comfort her and care for the child as much as he could, but his dear wife was driven insane by grief to the point that she even stopped speaking.

One day in the middle of the wintertime when she was at her worst he left for a short hunting trip to bring them back food to eat she left. She ran away from everything she knew and loved taking their baby son with her. When he returned and found her message he was heartbroken. In her message she had asked him never to follow after her and he didn't. In his grief over her pain he considered death but couldn't do it, in case she should return. But he could not see that happening. In her message she also told him how afraid she was that loving her father and him loving her killed her father, and her loving the man and the man loving her would surely kill him as well. So she was gone.

The man didn't move from that spot. He stayed, in his agony and pain, starving . . . hoping that life would just drain away. But survival was too deeply ingrained in him. One day though, barely alive and pain burned into his face as his sole expression he went to the village herbalist or rather shaman. He begged of her to find him a way where he could watch over his dear beloved wife and son always.

The shaman looked deeply into his eyes and saw a love greater than she had ever seen or known before, and it scared her. But she knew what she could do to the man. She warned him that it would be forever, and that there was no going back. He would live far longer than his beloved wife and son ever would and he would have to watch centuries upon centuries of pain and torment upon the earth.

The man readily agreed, for though his wife had not wanted him to love her anymore he could not let her go unprotected for the rest of her life. So he told the shaman that he would do it. She told him to meet her out under the stars at the next full moon just outside the village and she would take care of the rest.

The next full moon came. He was there. The shaman was there. She told him to take her to the place that he had first seen his beloved and he did. She told him to close his eyes and told him also that when he opened his eyes again it would be from far away and that he would be able to see his beloved.

He closed his eyes.

Memories of the night that they had met flooded his inner vision and her beautiful face lighted by the moon was the foremost thought on his mind. Suddenly he opened his eyes to ask the shaman a quick question but low and behold . . . he was far away and looking down upon the shaman from a distance that he could never dream of measuring. Then he realized . . . I am the moon.

He searched the earth's surface for his dear wife and found her . . . she was in another village, safe and warm and his son was beside her. She sang to him a sad song of longing and fear as she brushed his dark hair away from his face. She looked up into the sky and into the man's face, unknowing that he watched her too. She got the strangest look in her eye . . . and it was almost as if she knew that he had past from his earthly life into that otherworldly sphere just for her. A silent tear fell down her cheek without her knowing the precise reason why.

And so the man watched over her for the rest of her life. And when she had died he watched over his son and their family and so on for generations and generations to come. The shaman who was soon to die searched and found one of the man's descendants and told them the story of the man who loved the woman enough to become the face of the moon and asked that he would tell his descendants of this act of love for as long as he lived, and he did. The story has never ended since.

Common belief has it that when one dies you become a star and that is why you could never count them, belief is also that the closest star to the moon . . . is the man in the moon's one true love, to watch the world as it goes by - where there love is forever.

The End.
