There is a song on a film version of Cinderella that I've always loved. It just speaks to me of loving people for who they really are and not what they look like. Who people appear to be is most often not who they are. For me even, I've found that for the most part, ALL of my first impressions are completely wrong. Some of my best friends I had the most demeaning opinions of - and when I tell them that later, we always have a good laugh at my silliness.
But it's something of concern to me right now. A friend (a true one) brought some aspects of my life back into focus and it reminded me, like I said of that song. Here are the lyrics:
~*~
Prince:
Do I love you because you're beautiful,
Or are you beautiful because I love you?
Do I make believe I see in you a girl too lovely to be really true?
Do I want you because you are wonderful,
Or are you wonderful because I want you?
Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream
Or are you really as beautiful as you seem?
Cinderella:
Am I making believe I see in you a man too perfect to be really true?
DO I want you because you are wonderful,
Or are you wonderful because I want you?
Both:
Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream
Or are you really as wonderful as you seem?
~*~
So from my perspective and from other perspectives, I wonder about these questions. Isn't love supposed to be more than just physical? Anyhow...just some thoughts I guess. :)
