today i was asked to sit in for my neighbor in primary while she helped her daughter get home. i stepped out of sunday school and into the primary room...a room i haven't been in for more than six years. it was a bit of a shock.
the lesson was incredibly simple. to the point and more for the understanding of the children than anyone else. i liked how we learned to say the scripture base for the lesson in sign language. "be ye kind one to another."
the teacher showed us pictures of moments in Christ's life where he was kind. honestly they all passed by me. but one moment in the lesson stood out to me...almost like someone had whispered in my ear and told me "kaylla, this is for you. listen."
she held up a painting of the woman who the pharisees brought, the woman who had been caught in adultery. she, the teacher, spoke of how he was kind to her...how he forgave her. and then she held up another picture. one of Christ atoning for our sins in the garden of gethsemane. the words she said, spoke to my mind more than anything has in a long time. "Jesus atoned for the womans sins."
it was such a simple thing to do. but the contrast...the difference between what i had always heard and that one difference in that single sentence meant a lot to me. He payed for her sins. He would have done it, even if she were the only one. and He loves me...just the same. He has atoned for my sins. it's such a simple and beautiful thing...i cannot help but marvel.
and all in a simple primary lesson.
